A few Sundays ago I heard the birds getting all excited in a Loquat tree. I went to have a look realising from behaviour it wasn't one of the cats. It did not take me long to find the Snouted Cobra completely relaxed on one of the lower branches. It was a beauty! Over 1.5m and healthy. I showed the whole family, these Cobras are not as moody as the Mozambique SC. For a Mozzie of that size I would have phoned a catcher. The snake remained in the tree until dark. Next day it was gone.
It was when I looked for photos to ID that I found the ASI App, great tool. The snake relocator part is very handy!

    Herald snake
    About 35cm

    05-01-20

    Slithered into a pool
    This was around 11pm.

    15-01-20
    Rhombic egg eater
    Large specimen
Found under car in the evening
Residents assumed it was a puff adder. These residents use to kill on site at one stage. They have now changed the approach

Attended the Snake handling Boot camp hosted by African Snakebite Institute. A prerequisite to attend the course is to do the awareness and basic snake handling . First part of the day dealt with hooking and tailing, discussion of tongs and hooks. The balance of the day dealt with finding and removing snakes in real life scenarios, in toilets, garages, outdoors. The venue had areas suitable to this. Compared to handling them on flat bits of grass, this was very very interesting. We handled, Cape Cobra, Forest Cobra, Snouted Cobra, Rinkhals ,Boomslang and puff adder. Cape Cobra was by far the most aggressive of the lot. Great course hosted by Johan Marais and well worth attending. Our Instructor was Luke Kemp, great guy. The next step from here is the advanced course.

Update . I didn't see much in 2021, one puffadder, two snouted cobras, brown house snake, skaapteker and a few spotted bush snakes. Today caught and released a Short Snouted grass snake. When people think of a fast snake they often think black mamba, but the short Snouted grass snake goes up a notch, it moves fast!
