Default North West traffic officers accused of asking US driver for a bribe

Footage of a metro police officer “demanding a R600 spot fine” has gone viral.

The footage was shot on driver Phil Maloney's dashcam on August 19 2019 in the North West.

An officer stopped Maloney after he was allegedly caught driving at 77km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The officer questioned Maloney about his foreign driver’s licence and allegedly told him she was going to issue him a “spot fine” as his licence was at issue.

Maloney said he believed “spot fine” to mean “bribe” in SA.

After some time, he agreed to follow the officer's supervisor to a police station, where he was asked to pay a R200 fine.

Would love to hear what their explanation for a "spot fine" is. That's BS.

I bet nothing will happen, why, because the supervisor had to come out and the scum were left to issue “spot fines”

I was wondering what the actual fine amount was.

They requested R600 and the fine is actually R200.

Unless he got discount, it would show cause. But then again, when did anybody get convicted for corruption.

Wish there could be a solution for all this BS.

It’s going to get to the point where Joe Public starts to dish it out to the corrupt officers and people will start to die. People are tired of taking a fall for this crap, it’s the ugly side of the disregard of the law and this disregard was and is being driven by the state.

The problem is this, people do often flaunt the law in this country, cause a "hungry" traffic officer is willing to let you go with a "spot fine"
How often do you find traffic flying past you while on a highway, or watch taxi's drive on the wrong side of the road, or on the pavement to sneak past traffic, all while a traffis sleeps in his or her car.
Those that want to do the right thing, like the guy in this video, will have a tough time purely cause they want to do the legal and right thing, all while an unscrupulous scumbag demands a bribe

You want to know why some cops take bribes?

    Because some people pay bribes.

Sadly this is true. It’s incentivized.
