Rashoop closed?
Heard a rumour yesterday that Rashoop shooting range has been closed for a few months now? Any truth to this? Was planning on going there tomorrow.

Re: Rashoop closed?
It is closed by the inspectors of the SABS. Have no idea if it will be opened again and when.

Re: Rashoop closed?
SABS (more precisely NRCS = National Regulator for Compulsory Standards) is yet another weapon with which to beat us. Somerset West Pistol Club re-opened two months ago after being closed for about nine months. We are on municipal land and can be closed at the whim of Cape Town City. On this occasion it was a complaint by a neighbouring farmer who wants to close us permanently and got us closed by sending someone on to our range without our knowledge to see how we might be in violation and reported us directly to NRCS. As we were right in the middle of renewing our lease with a hostile local councillor involved, he timed his attack very neatly. The battle cost us nearly a quarter million bucks and nine months closure. The point being that in earlier times we could and would have told the farmer to sod off. I said twenty years ago that the FCA would eventually force us to own our ranges, at least 100km outside of town.

Re: Rashoop closed?
NRCS is not that bad a lot. They closed a Range and it was operational 2 weeks later after the recommendations was done. This range is a outdoor range with NO safety zone, situated 800m from a Runway of a regional airport.
