I obviously did not articulate my thoughts fully and if I gave you the impression that the Rhodesian Army was a ragtag group of rednecks I apologize. My point was this, when EO was active (after Rhodesia was Zimbabwe and the SADF was now the SANDF) EO had the most disciplined professional force. Small? Yes. Effective? You better believe it.
Let us not forget the large numbers of South African mainly Afrikaans Boys that spilt their blood there and today when the 'ex Rhodie" romantacise but ignore our boys.

To put it bluntly Rhodesia would have been shithole country many decades earlier if it were not for the mainly Afrikaans boys that held it.

If Denel was functioning, this could be a perfect weapons testing facility

Actually even thought he Rooivalk proved itself in DRC, this could be another operational feather in its cap, especially in terms of sales

Amen to that. My blood boils when the sacrifice our soldiers made is turned into a political debate and they're denigrated.

With government support at an all time low, I wonder how many people would actually back the terrorists

I don't think many to be honest

What would be more concerning would be the general defunding of state intelligence, saps and army etc
If we were to face a committed internal threat/terror campaign, would we cope?

It does bring a whole new dynamic of danger though, we are all used to CIT, and the general violence of our country

South Africa, well in fact SADC need to show some teeth.

But then again, they let Zim and Swazi citizens get terrorized daily by their own governments

News24 had an article earlier about SA and the ISIS issue but access is limited to paid subscribers.

SADC is too complicit / campacent / incompetent / bankrupt or scared.
ISIS also doesn't play by the rules. they would capture a group of tourists
and behead them just to make a point.
