Default Hunting big game rifle question

    hello all,

I have a question regarding big game hunting. I have personally never hunted any big game and probably will not hunt any big game in the foreseeable future, but nonetheless, I have a question in this regard.
Could those of you in the know let me know if the normal big game hunt is conducted with rifle scope of with old school iron sights. I suspect that the answer is that most is hunted with iron sights and not scope.
in addition to this, could you let me know what the min and max distance in general that big game is hunted. I have the feeling the distances is around 10M to 100M max. is this correct

the feelings here are based on YouTube videos that I have seen, but as we all know, YouTube does not always equate to real world. therefore I would like to have some insight in this.

Use a scope for the hunt. Low magnification. Long eye relief.

Scoped mostly low magnification. Hunting between 30-80m
Wounded game follow up however is mostly open sights and shorter distances

99 percent of the hunters that came to the farm in Zim I worked on had scoped rifles for ellie. Only the odd few (2 that I remember) with double guns shot open sights. First Shots were never more than 40/50m, and on average 15-20m.

On the big bore rifles Africa page, I see a few hunts being conducted with red dots as well,RMRs or Aimpoints.

90% of my DG hunts is with a scoped 375.
Reason is they can shoot accurately with it. If the guy has a 416/458 etc, and can comfortably hunt with it, scoped or open sighted, I am happy to let him. But he won't be taking far shots unless he can prove he can hit the target at the range.

The guys who bring doubles, is a 50/50 split between scoped and open sighted

I have a Kahles RMR on my 458 Lott.
It's just quicker to use and more accurate

For the average hunter, hunting big game, a low power (1x to 2x lower magnification) variable scope is the most practical choice. A ph backing clients on big game will have different requirements.
