I see the cost is normal range fees. What else? Do I have to joun SADPA or something?

Nope. Come with R150 (plus extra for cold drink and a burger) PPE, ammo, gun, outside holster and join in. It is very relaxed. Bring lots of ammo- that way you don't stress about missing

If it's your first time you can run in excess of 400. Plan your ammo usage. If you are taking 5 shots to hit a target rather drop that string. regroup and focus on the fundamentals for the next one. Worst string on very stage gets dropped from the score.

It is a timed event, but at first just go at your own pace, you will pick up speed eventually...

From pretty close to pretty far. But the far away ones are big. Really big.

Hitting the plates really isn’t a problem, hitting them at speed is where the wheels start to come off.

The stages are standardised worldwide, so you can look them up on the web for target sizes and distances.

Summary: Steel Challenge has 8 standard stages, five targets each. Always the same stages, so you can track your progress accurately and your time can be compared worldwide.

You can download diagrams of the stage layouts from the web. Normally these diagrams are in feet.

You shoot each stage 5 times, and the worst time is dropped, i.e. the best 4 times are added and that is your stage time (one of the stages is only shot 4 times, best 3 to count).

One target is the stop plate and must be shot last. If you fail to shoot the stop plate, your time is deemed as 30 seconds. If you miss a plate and hit the stop plate, 5 second penalty per missed plate.

Targets include 10" round plates, 12" round plates and 18"x24" rectangular plates. Some stage times can be as low as 2-3 seconds per run or under 10 seconds for the stage (this is top class).

Best to come and have a look even if you don't shoot first time. It is huge fun.
