Re: Woman starts shooting, house robber dies
Why is there any need for ballistic tests, or indeed any tests of any sort on the gun?
Fact is the tool used to defend oneself and to shoot and kill the robber is not in dispute in any of these home-defence scenarios, thus there is absolutely no justification for taking the gun for testing.
If I found myself in such a situation I would flatly refuse to hand over the firearm and would suggest that I sign an acknowledgement only that my gun was used in the incident.
Since I would still be holding the gun at the time of suggesting this, with 17+1 rounds (less whatever was used in the shooting), I would suggest that the cops accept that offer as a very good deal - the best in fact that they can get!

Fact 1 - to ascertain that the forensic evidence meets and concurs with the stated/ witness evidence, The police officer responding does not know you from Adam he or she needs to take your word that it a went down the way it went down and b that the firearm has never ever been used in any other shooting?
Fact 2 - your flat refusal would likely ensure your arrest on obstructing a police officer in the lawful execution of their duties, but by all means be adamant in your refusal I am sure they would love to cater for that!
Fact 3 - theoretically that the shooting is lawfull is dependant on what the court says, as the magistrate, prosecutor, stenographer etc are not conveinently placed on scene for your immediate support all evidence is procedurally seized to ensure a complete chain of evidence custody
Fact 4 - you holding your firearm in a threatening manner with the SAPS on scene would likely be perceived as a stand off and the end result would be catered for you by NIU or the Taakies resulting in you wearing a really unattatractive one size fits all suit! but hey whatever blows your hair back I am sure the guys and girls will be able to cater for your wishes there as well!I am studying an awesome brand of leg fighting which was inspired by dung beetles and I think my brand of Kraft Manure is superior to all other styles ever invented. Furthermore I challenge all other manurists to a rolling contest where we shall establish whose manure ball is the biggest! I shall call it Honest Kraft Manure and declare it superior to all other brands of manure and will tell you that I have claimed the lineage directly to Imshi the great Dragon Kru Master Beetler who invented manuring, by gathering all manure from different animals together and making it work as the worlds most effective fertilizer. I proved myself by being members of not one but three super elite special gardening departments who were responsible for spreading manure to combat weed infestations!

Re: Woman starts shooting, house robber dies
I can appreciate the need for ballistic testing. I just wish it happened quicker so that people are left unarmed for a minimum period

Re: Woman starts shooting, house robber dies
I read elsewhere on this forum that you can offer to take the FA to Pretoria for ballistic testing?

In most cases the Magistrate on duty will allow you to retain your firearm pending your agreeing to provide it for testing when/if required.
Your lawyer, who should already be on scene by the time the police arrive can negotiate this for you.
The very first phonecalls you make after a shooting should be for an ambulance, the police and your lawyer... not necessarily in that order...., NOT to your swaer to tell him about the oke you just 'blaased'..."Always remember to pillage before you burn"
