Woman starts shooting, house robber dies

’n Huisrower is dood nadat ’n sielkundige van Menlopark, Pretoria, hom in haar huis betrap en raak geskiet het.



Die gewonde rower het egter voor sy dood eers deur mev. Ronell Mentz (58), ’n kliniese sielkundige, se tuin gestrompel, oor die muur geklim en in die buurman se swembad geval.

Lede van die Brooklyn-polisiekantoor wat binne minute op die toneel was, het die rower uit die swembad gered, maar hy het oomblikke later in die ambulans beswyk.

“Ek dink nie ek is ’n heldin nie,” het Mentz gesê.

“Dis nie ek wat so oulik of so dapper was nie. Daar is Iemand wat na my gekyk het. Ek was net gelukkig.”

Mentz het gisteroggend 01:30 wakker geword van haar hond, Gina, wat grom.

Sy het die lig aangeskakel en kon aan haar hond se gedrag sien dat iets fout is.

Mentz het haar kamerdeur oopgemaak. ’n Paar meter van haar af het sy ’n man met ’n flits gesien.

“Hy het aan my geskree: ‘I will shoot you’,” het Mentz gesê.

“Ek is nie seker wat ek aan hom teruggeskree het nie, maar ek is terug kamer toe waar ek my rewolwer uit my kluis gaan haal het.

“Terug in die huis in het ek twee figure in die gang gesien. Toe begin ek skiet.

“Ná die vierde skoot het ek besef ek moet padgee, want ek het nog net een patroon in die wapen oor.

“Ek het na my dogter se kamer toe gehardloop en aan haar gesê om die polisie te bel.”

Mentz se dogter, Marina (32), het die Brooklyn-polisiekantoor gebel en ’n “mag polisiemanne” was binne minute by hul huis.

Die polisie het die huis deursoek.

Buite het klere, wat die rowers gebuit het, in ’n streep gelê wat na die buurman se muur gelei het.

Ná verdere ondersoek het die polisie een rower in die buurman se swembad gekry. Hulle het hom gered, maar hy is kort daarna in die ambulans dood.

Brig. André Wiese, stasiebevelvoerder van die Brooklyn-polisiekantoor, het gesê ’n tweede rower is nog op vrye voete.

Volgens Wiese het die polisie ook een van die rowers se vuurwapens in Mentz se tuin gekry.

“Ons het absolute lof vir die polisie. Hulle was vinnig hier en het professioneel, ondersteunend, met empatie en met begrip opgetree,” het Mentz gesê.

’n Huisroof word ondersoek.

A clinical psychiatrist is awakened by her dog. She opens her bedroom door and a guys with a torches threaten to shoot her. She gets her revolver (apparently a 5 shot snub) from the safe and starts shooting at them.

At round four she realises she's gonna run out of ammo, and runs to her daughters room where the police are called. Great response from the police and the handled the situation very well.

They follow a trail of stolen goods and find the wounded robber in the neighbours swimming pool, fish him out and he dies (what a way to go!) They recover the gun the dead BG's had in her garden.

A case of house robbery is being investigated.

IMO she was very lucky that she had enough time to get her gun out of the safe. Hope she keeps that gun within easy reach at night from now on!

They should do an autopsy on the oke, he probably drowned rather than dying of his gunshot wounds.

This lady did very well: 1 Going through all the hassle of licencing her gun.
2. Getting at least some training/experience, to be able to use it.
3. Keeping her wits together to fight back efficiently. Even to the point of counting her shots!
Yes she was also lucky, yes she should keep her revolver with her.
Sadly she is now disarmed by the very police she phoned. They took it for "ballistic testing", and will sit on it for months. And there is a surviving BG out there, maybe with thoughts of revenge!!
This happened to a relative of mine. He phoned them weekly to hear when his property wold be returned, and was told "Dit werk maar so meneer." everytime.When he threatened to obtain a court order to get his property back, the "ballistic tests" were miraculously completed in two day's time.

They will autopsy him. Chances are, he probably drowned! ROFLMAO!
