.308 kill an eland?
Hello
I am going on a hunting trip in June 2020.
I am planning on taking an eland and kudu. I am planning on using a.308 with 168GR Barnes vor-tx ammunition. Is this sufficient, will it take down an eland easily? And up to what distance? I only have this one rifle. Will I need to buy a bigger rifle for this type of game, like a 300 winmag or will my 308 be ok. Thanks for your help in advance. Regards Nic

Yip. Shot placement. I have hunted both successfully with 150gr PMP brown box.
The furthest shot was about 170m on the Kudu. Eland was 120m.

Good choice of bullet there for Eland. Make sure shot placement is spot on and you shouldn't have issues with your 308 and Eland. Distance I feel comes down to your ability. Some people take shots they not comfortable with and end up wounding.. I don't feel shy saying the animal is too far if I'm not okay with the shot.

The 168gr Barnes will be fine for an Eland

Dear Nic, you don't need a reason or an excuse to buy another rifle. We understand and love you nontheless.
Seriously though, your 308 packs enough punch, especially with the monolithic Barnes bullets.
Remember that an eland is large to huge compared to other antilope. The round shoulder bone is said to be really hard. Be aware of its location when taking a bladskoot. A wounded eland can travel many miles.
Enjoy the hunt !!
