Re: whisky - uisge beatha - aqua vitae
Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin in no apparent order.
Most of my single malts are from Islay.

Funny seeing this now, had a happy customer drop off a box of Glen grant 12 this morning. Will be swapping it out at tops on the way home for a box of Singleton 15 duff town(my go to).

Please elaborate on the ice messing with the taste, I am a bit of an ice lover.
I also enjoy putting drinks in freezer for a while.
I always felt whiskey was nicer with ice -3 tots, 4 blocks ice let stand for a moment or four.
What is the "no no" with ice? And whiskey?

Well the best whisky out there is the whisky you like... and the best way to drink it is the way you like to drink it. There is no right or wrong.
However when adding alot of water to your whisky you are not drinking whisky anymore but whisky flavoured water. Ice reduces the taste about 30%.. its like turning down the volume. Again if that is how you like it go for it. Whisky appreciation/tasting one normally try it neat in a nosing glass of some sorts thus to get the full experience. Then you can add a few drops of water to open up the whisky... because science.
And if you want you can dilute it further and or add ice. Everything adds to the experience.
Some of us like it cask strength at 65%abv some like it watered down.
Again no nobbery here

Neat Whiskey gets me waaaay too drunk, I like to dilute with a touch of water or a lot of Ice, the photo is my typical Ice to pleasure ratio

Re: Whisky appreciation thread.
It’s a funny thing. When I started out with the single malts I also preferred the speysides, and lately the peated ones have become my go-to.
Now a speyside tastes almost bland.Sent electronically, thus not signed.
