Default "DO NOT FIRE IN LM4/5" on PMP ammunition

    Hallo Folks,

A family member recently received some PMP ammunition (223 Rem, 55gr Softpoint, white-and-blue box).

The packages were probably produced during the later 1990's.

The back of the boxes contain a sticker which states "DO NOT FIRE IN LM4/5".

Does anyone know more about this?

Were there pressure issues with either the ammunition or the rifles?

Did the SP's not feed properly in the LM series?

I still have some boxes of this and was told that the primers were too soft for the LMs and would produce slam fires. Milspec primers are harder. This was at a time when we were getting slam fires in our R4s with issue ammo.

    This.

I have had slam fires in my LM6 with Winchester ammo. Ran 4 rounds off. Its not fun, at least when you are not expecting it.

The soft points used to smash themselves silly into the feedramps, then they would shed jackets in the barrels.

The LM/R feedramps are not for sissies.

Peter, I believe that was another issue.

I suffered through the initial batch of Galils in 81, and then the first batch of R4s with the floating firing pins... which were modified by the gun plumbers in Oshakati after the parabats shot each other on parade at Ondjiva.

    Thanks Folks!

Would these work in other 223/5.56x45 platforms ie AR-15, Mini-14 etc?

Does anybody know if this issue would occur when using the ammo in an AR 15 platform?

All the PMP Boxer-primed 223 ammo was at one stage marked like this. It was primarily to mitigate the slam-fire issues on the original R/LM firing pins. The thicker floating firing pins would also pierce the Boxer primers occasionally.

This is less of an issue with other SLR's, but most of them will still mark the primer on chambering and could fire if the same round is chambered repeatedly. Always inspect and be careful.

    Good evening all.

Which ammo must be avoided in a LM?
    PMP commercial, Winchester, what else?
