The first reply to your post was steel wool and oil.

Sure, but there are a hundred opinions out there, so you don't know exactly where to turn, some have said that even 0000 steel wool will still damage the finish, so when someone says they have been doing it for 30 years and it doesn't remove the bluing well you might just put some stock in that opinion.

Anyway, I've decided to go with Ballistol (leave it to sit on the rusted area for a while) and then try a gentle rub with 0000 steel wool and also try a bronze brush if need be.

Apply eezox to it once all the corrosion is gone.

Pretty sure the ballistol and steel wool will do the trick to get it off.

    Copper washer.
Available at most building merchants or car automotive suppliers.

SA version of the copper penny which is unobtanium here.

Wow, that Eezox seems to do the trick. Where do you buy yours from, a google search only found one store, Hailstorm, any Cape Town stores that stock it?

Let us know which method you used and the outcome.
On the FA's I have done the less abrasive the better.

When cleaning my 1924/5 shottie, patience and care was key.
The result was worth the hard work.

With the engravings clearly visible and the metal beaming in all its former glory the patience paid off.
The occasional metal pitting on the barrel and fading on the oil blued receiver side plates was the only thing that could not be revived.
There is no short cut method.
