Damn the Aussies are a competitive bunch aren't they. They have this desire to lead the world in anything measurable.
So it looks like when they heard South Africa is leading the world in destroying their economy over this pandemic the Aussies said "Hell No we can do better" .

Crazy thing is they are sitting on a death toll in the low triple digits and something like only 47 in ICU. Yet an entire state representing over a quarter of their GDP is closed.
