Default What's the best product for neutarlising corrosive ammo residue

Is there any product in SA that completely neutralizes the corrosive residue after using say for instance Norinco ammo?

Yes, you must clean your rifle properly, but is there anything that helps you do the job if you use the ammo often.

Super cheap and effective: boil your kettle, pour the contents down the barrel. Dry and clean as per normal, if you want, clean with sunlight or windex and rinse with boiling water before cleaning with solvent and oil

Works for corrosive ammo as well as black powder.

Di-hydrogen monoxide is especially efficient at removing corrosive residues.

Follow up with oil based product.

+1 on the boiling water. It is all us blackpowder muzzle loaders use. It cleans out the left over salts then the heat in the metal dries the water out quickly.

You can use a window cleaner that has ammonia like windex for a quick clean then use hot water later.

Immediately thin coat the bore with your favorite oil or you will get orange surface rust.

What gives you the idea that Norinco ammo is corrosive enough to be a problem. Filthy and stinky yes. Very mildly corrosive; possibly but not in the way older commbloc ammo may be. Certainly nothing that requires windolene etc. The very best way to clean and blow some of the stink out is to use 2 or 3 commercial rounds after a shoot. Then clean as per normal or dont unless you live at the coast or humid climate.

Thanks guys, it's a Howa hunting rifle so wouldn't be able to remove the scope and strip it like an SLR but will make a plan to carefully get water down the barrel and clean the bolt.

That's what I've been told and the google has confirmed it, so rather not take the risk?

On the base of the case it has CJ (with a space between the C and J) stamped on the top and 96 at the bottom.

According to IAA CJ stands for:
China North Industries Corp., (NORINCO), 7A Yue Tan Nan Jie, Beijing, Peoples Republic of China

Does the 96 stand for the date 1996?
