Default A new set of revolver grips

As mentioned elsewhere, I hate the pachmyers on my redhawk. I finally got off my arse and found a place to get a set of Hogues, but I would have to wait until the end of lockdown, and, not being the type who likes waiting, I decided to give the DIY option a go.
I have a stack of rosewood in my garage, so this was the obvious choice. I thought for the first go I would choose an offcut that was more sapwood than heartwood - something that I am really pleased with now.
    The before:

I traced the outline and inner cutouts as best I could, and photocopied them to give a template , which I stuck to the wood, then rough cut them on the bandsaw and relieved the cutouts on my mini mill.

I machined a spacer to mark where the locating holes for the holder thingy went, drilled these, and fitted the rough grips.

Then it was back to the mill to get the thickness right, and then onto a jig for to be shaped by hand

Fitting consisted of slotting them on the gun, and removing wood where it didn't feel right...

A finish using Birchwood Casey Tru-oil

Machined a new screw out of brass, and the beastie now has a special place in my heart...

    Very nice.
Saved yourself a good amount of money compared to buying one
