What optic should I "opt" for?
So my license app on my S&W M&P15 Sport has been approved and now my focus has come upon kitting the gun up.
It's going to start life as a range toy and an occasional rifle shoot so basically looking at something that has some versatility, to hit targets up close but also further out (100m-200m).
What are you guys running? Any recommendations on a budget friendly optic?

Re: What optic should I "opt" for?
My recomendation would be something like a 1-6x 24 type scope.
For close range gives you at 1x almost same as Red Dot. Not the same but very close.
For longer distances you can go up to 6x. Some models offer 8x also.
If your on a budget. VectorOptics does a nice one. I fitted one on a PC9. Youtube reviews guys use them on AR's with no issue.
On Budget UTG also makes one.
UTG makes a cheap line. But for past couple of years have their more premimu better built range for sport shooter.
I just mentioned these two if you wanted to start budget friendly.

Re: What optic should I "opt" for?
I started off with the Sight Mark Ultra R spec, I have it on my 9mm carbine. I paid under R3k for it and I am still waiting for it to give me some issues so I can change it to something else.
I have the Sightmark Wolverine CSR on my VZ58, also a budget optic which I paired with a T5 magnifier. Worked out to under R8k for the set up

I will look at the Holosun range, something in the 512 range with a magnifier. Don't need anything more for your distance mentioned, and good for CQB as well.
If you are leaning more towards longer distances, then a 1-6 or 1-8 scope (can always add a offset red dot for CQB)

Re: What optic should I "opt" for?
If I can give you one piece of advice, try and avoid buying twice!
Depending on use but you would most likely need a 1-6(8)x24 but adding a RDS to this is also nice setup that work for most scenario's.
I Run a Vortex. but you can find a Rudolph or Burris that should do the trick and when it comes to RDS I just add Holosun to everything.

Have a look at the Primary Arms 1-6/8. Very reasonably priced and their ACSS reticle is genius (be sure to get the FFP so the reticle works at any magnification)

Get your eyes checked for astigmatism first before buying any red dot.
