Silencer machined onto rifle
Hi, I want a silencer that can be machined
Onto my 30-06 rifle, but I don't know it can be done, I just saw it once, but did not bother asking where it was done, because I wasn't into hunting, so I need an advise where can It be machined.
Your respond will be kindly appreciated.
Thank in advance

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
Do you mean integrally fitted silencer. Almost becomes part of the barrel. Google images and see if this is what you want. Then I think Numenor may be able to assist. Its a fairly custom job that requires a lot of machining.

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
Or do you perhaps mean "Reflex" silencer? This extends backwards over the barrel, but can still be removed?

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
Ok, did a Numenor search and came upon a vid of a test on a 3006. What it looks like is a full length barrel shroud that is very popular on PCP air rifles, probably a bit more complex than that though.
Seemed to work extremely well.

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
A shrouded barrel will definitely look neat, but remember that a 30-06 generates a lot of heat in the barrel and that needs to dissipate somewhere. If you enclose it in a shroud, the heat gets trapped. This is not an issue with PCP air rifles as they actually cool down from shooting.
The better center fire rifle supressor designs facilitate air cooling of the barrel and supressor.

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
That looks like a reflex silencer on a short barrel. Numenor makes those. They're long, heavy and heat up the barrel like a sumbitch, but they work.

Quick question. When it heats up, does the point of impact change?

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
It looks cool but I would not do it , both because of the heat and because of cleaning.

Re: Silencer machined onto rifle
Fit a short Ase Utra silencer. Pricey but they are worth it.
Going backwards over barrel causes the heat issue above as mentioned. Also the hot gasses will now run over your barrel and the debris will start eating your barrel outer.
On PCP's its only clean air running over barrel backwards. And the air comes out of a diving Cylinder. Which means it went through filters to remove moisture for divers. Which will not then cause moisture inside shroud that will cause rust.
