Exclamation Hawks seize imported US firearms in Bloemfontein

Hawks seize imported US firearms in Bloemfontein

This came after the Hawks’ National Priority Violent Crime unit received a tip-off about a package destined for South Africa from the United States via a freight shipping service.
Warrant Officer Lynda Steyn of the Hawks said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the parcel was falsely declared as workshop parts as recorded in the waybill number. Based on the gathered information, a search warrant was then obtained and the shipment was tracked."

which were activated to monitor the delivery of the package to an address in Innes Avenue in Waverley, Bloemfontein.

Knowing the SAPS and their track record. There is a high probability the the package had legal parts in it, well maybe not from a US ITAR perspective, but it has been touted as a victory in curbing illicit gun trade.

Guess we will hopefully find out

The story differs a bit depending on the source. Some mention "firearms", others "firearm parts". I suspect the latter is probably nearer to the truth.

Having (very much legally, mind you) imported FA parts from the US on several occasions, I can just imagine how some genius official could get funny ideas and trigger a full scale investigation. TIA.

Vague article, so we don't know the full story, but my money is on something like a set of grips or sights.

Question Re: Hawks seize imported US firearms in Bloemfontein

    Any update on this ?
I am curious as to the detail of the "contraband"

Is the law-breaker in trouble ?
    or
Do the Hawks have red faces ?

Heard from person in Bloem that the parts were legally imported with the necessary permits, but no further statement from the police.
