    I don't think Pb and Al tend to alloy well.

    The instructions say pure lead. This may be hard to determine, depending on what equipment you have. I used stick-on wheel weights and they have a BHN of around 8. Still pretty soft, but not quite pure.

    It is not like the mould got damaged immediately, just the wear is higher than with softer, pure lead.

    I once made the mistake of using my normal bullet alloy in a Lyman Foster-type mould. Fortunately the mould is quite tough, but getting the plug out of the hollow base was a struggle. Everything being hot did not help...

    How will you know if it has Al ?

    Or is that he trick just use pure lead?

    What is the best source for pure lead?

    Wheel that stick on have some Al in it.
    For my Slugs, I have a nice supply of linotype and large supply of old postal bag lead seals which are pure lead.
