Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
The system is fundamentally unchanged since 1961, perhaps since 1910. So to suggest that it was put in place to serve the ANC is patently untrue.
From a constitutional perspective, citizens are better placed now than ever to guard against tyrannical regime.
It is also fundamentally similar to most western democracies.Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
the glory of the great dead.

Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
You are correct -- I did mention gunfire and a warning shot IS gunfire
What I intended to say / mean by gunfire -- is gunfire directed at a person ( attacker ) NOT a warning shot
I may have misunderstood ? but my understanding of your approach is NOT to fire a warning shot but rather -- when necessary shoot to kill ?
I apologize if I have misunderstood

Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
Came across a recent scenario where warning shots were used, thought it may be interesting:
Anyone with more info?
Worcester Cas 406/07/2020 Attempted House Robbery
(Farm Attack)
On 2020-07-23 at 01:00 at Saailand, Eilandia. Mr Kempton owner of the house, he alledge that three unknown african males attack him with a hand made steel blade while he was in his shower and his wife in her room. He fought them off. He went inside his house to get his firearm and shot several warning shots and the suspect flet on foot into the bushes. Nothing was taken. No arrest.

Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
What / who was the source of the above snippet?
Did it come from a community safety whatapp group or was it released by the CIAC office of the SAPS station, or was it a press release by an SAPS spokesperson?
I see a few things that are problematic or can be problematic and perhaps it was just a hearsay account.
Did Mr Kempton's statement to the SAPS specifically state that he fired "warning shots" or did he fire while fearing for his life but he possibly missed, and the shots fired in self defense became "warning shots"
Secondly: WTF is an "African male"? I was born in Africa and I'm male. Can I please also be an African male from now on?
"he fought them off" (coming from his shower) (and then) "went into his house". Is this dude's shower outside?
And after he successfully "fought them off" (but while they still hung around deciding to call it quits or regroup and attack again) "he fired warning shots..." and only then did they "flet on food" (Or perhaps the fled on foot...)

Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
It was posted in the Rawsonville Buurtwag group.
I picked up the same errors, but thought i would not comment on his ability to speak English as it may not be his first language.
It seemed as though it happened yesterday, hence me asking for anyone with more info.
I copy and pasted this as is, so i have no further info, but will update my post if i find out more.
*edit, there were photos of the steel blade and what looks like cuts on the farmer, but i struggle to upload pics.

Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
Calling someone an African Male is supposed to be the new PC way of referring to them as black...
Just like a white person is of 'European descent'
I agree, I was born in South Africa, that is in Africa, therefore i am African.
But no, according to certain people, you would be wrong.

Re: Should you fire a warning shot?
If you have all the info then yes please share. But the content of a buurtwag whatsapp can mean many things and it will probably be factually incorrect.
If the defender fought them off with bare hands and then somehow got his gun and fired shots at them in self defense; it would be a "good shooting" regardless of whether he hit them or not.
If the attackers fled and the person then went to get his gun and then fired a few shots after the event, it means he had no reason to fire shots.
