    Default Business Competency

Has anybody recently done a Business Competency application? Specifically to be employed at a gunshop and/or do business as an instructor?

If so, what supporting documents are required?

    Thanks

Hi, it's not a 'competency' per se'..it's merely a Unit Standard you achieve , but is required by PSIRA for security guards, and some DFOs (and some at CFR) are sticky about requiring it to be employed at gunshops.

There's no mention of it the FCA, but it has become the de facto requirement for 'trade in firearms'. (I know of a shop where 4 or 5 people employed were not required to submit Business Purposes certs in support of dealer (and employee) competency applications)

You will undergo basic theory training (not much more difficult than your basic proficiency training) and the practical requirement is a little more difficult (but not difficult if you've been shooting for a while).
You will be awarded certificates, but the unit standard does not convert to a competency as such through SAPS.
You will submit these certs as well as your basic proficiency training certs and competency to own firearms, and in section D of the SAPS517, you will tick the 'trade in firearms' block.
