Default When does hunting season actually start in SA?

    Good Day All

I wanted to find out when are the actual dates for our hunting season in South Africa.

Would anyone be able to help me out so that I can keep a calendar of the season and when they start and finish.

It would be highly appreciated and in return I hope I may tell you all of our awesome sale we are having on optics!

Thank you for the help all!

The rule of thumb I was taught is that the hunting season spans over all the months without an "R" - i.e. May up to August. Some game farms bend this rule a bit and will allow hunting outside these months.

The general rule as described above applies...generally.

You need to look at the provincial ordinances each year for the official hunting season of each privince (you can get them on PHASA's website).

and amazingly, what are the bad fishing months? The rule of thumb is the the months without a "R" are poor fishing months ------------------------- you might as well go hunting.

Its also the colder months. Which helps when you also shoot an animal to help keep meat cool until transported back to farm house. As in hot summer Karoo months. The meat will not survive outside long in hot sun baking down on it.

    1. <450ha game farm still need a hunting permit to hunt from May to August from nature conservation; >450ha can apply for an exemption (P3) permit which you will allowed to hunt form Jan-Dec - Both has game fence...
    2. We all believe that hunting season is from May-August yearly, but it can change depending what has been Gov. Gazetted...

I thought it was during these months mentioned simply because of pregnancy and young. The rut is usually around May. Hense most female shot will not be heavily pregnant and youngsters will not be relient on the mother.

One gets a CAE permit (Eastern Cape) on a property bigger than 400ha.
