    Default Brown Bess

So i am trading some off my collector stuff, especially the deactivated stuff that I acquired over the years.

Manage to swop a deactivated Broomhandle with stock for a Brown Bess and cash. To say the least I am excited.

The plan is to get it to shoot again.

Any advice or owners of similar age rifles?

I suppose it will depend on the condition of the musket. Hopefully the frizzen gives a good spark from the flint when striked by the flint. I can help you with round balls if you are interested. I have a round ball mold for both .715 and .735"
Black powder is not a problem with excellent ZAR powder available.

These are great fun to shoot, but a PITA the clean afterwards. Hot water and clean green is your friend. Lube with Ballistol (or any other NON petroleum based lubricant afterwards.
Use Oxyoke patch lube for the patches around the round ball.

I do not have information for you on the Brown Bess, but I do have a bayonet for you if you want it. I cannot guarantee it will fit, but all my research point to it being a Brown Bess Bayonet.

    Hi Mic,

We need to chat. I am in need of round balls for the Bess and your expert advise. See Felix Lategan says in BOER SE ROER TOT VANDAG it's a 11-Bore, but to shoot 13 or 14-Bore.
The external condition is good in my humble opinion, but I would love to borescope it.
The 19mm muzzle end is intimidating.

What will be a starting point for those 600gr balls? I currently only have Obatex 3fg and 1.5fg.
I dont have other BP at present.
