Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
120gr at 2300 is similar to 7.62x39 but it'll have better BC and SD. I'll wager there's a wider selection of hunting and target bullets available as well.
223 is probably an excellent trainer and range toy but very limited as a hunting cartridge.

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
Thanks guys.
I been to the range this weekend and had a go at the 243.
Abit rough for u kid but maybe thats because it had no silencer.
Also with you guys knowledge what are good silencers to buy?
I have a custom made 1 from gunworx fitted on my 308

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
Although the 243 has historically been bought for kids as a "first gun" it really is more of a specialist caliber. It shoots relatively light bullets fast, so depending on the type of hunting you do, you may end up getting extensive meat damage. Personally I'd think you're better off with one of 6.5 flavours. The Grendel seems to be the baby of the bunch, but perhaps an ideal starter rifle.

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
The .243 Win has come under some spectacular fire over the last 10 years since the 6.5mm craze started. I think a lot of the criticism is unjustified speaking more towards a lack from the shooter than the cartridge itself. I grew up with the cartridge and have hunted many animals with it, mostly in the bushveld. In my opinion and experience it is more than enough cartridge for anything up to impala sized game for an average shooter which puts it a bit above the designation of "varmint" cartridge. My cousin only has a .243 and he shoots kudu regularly but then he lives on a farm and shoots a lot so can place that bullet fairly well.
All moot points as the OP has bought the 6.5 Grendel already.

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
I never said it's an incapable cartridge ;-) I know a guy that shoots everything from jackals to gemsbok with his. I've seen him successfully take 2 in a row headshots at ostrich at 300m (I ranged for him so I know it's not bullshit. The third shot went a bit low and cost as an afternoon chasing one bloody bird....)
So for guys that really know how to use it, it undoubtedly pays dividends, but the margins remain very small.

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
Is there any truth to the myth that a 243 barrel will be shot out in 1500 rounds but 6. 5 will shoot 6 to 7000 without any hassles

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
Stumbled onto this Youtube video over weekend.
Listen to part about why 243 barrels dont last and wear out quick from the expert in barrel making.
Also why not to clean clean and clean.

Re: 6.5 grendel vs 243 Win
Look at video link I just posted. 243 will not last as long as other calibers. Due to the barrel expert explaining. Its to do with the angle of the shoulders on a 243. Blowing the powder straight at angles into barrel which makes it not last as long.
Also he explains that its the barrel chemistry which relates to barrel life. Not just the caliber design.
But 243 is well known for eating up barrels. And Krieger's explains why.
Also 6.5 is now old school. The in caliber is 6mmARC
