    Default Pale Chanting Goshawk.

Pale Chanting Goshawk, its Afrikaans name is Bleeksingvalk but a lot of people in our area call it a blouvalk. They are avid scavengers, despite being good hunters, and we often find cheetah, caracal and jackal kills thanks to them.

    Nice photo Tinus.
They are opportunistic hunters. I once went to the offices of Nature Conservation in Nylstroom to collect permits and saw where one of these Goshhawks were feeding on the chicks of pigeons that nested on the ledge of the 3rd story

Driving up to the Eastern Cape, my trips always only ever truly started once I saw the first PCG.

I fell in love with that Goshawk when I was a kid walking around in the army base. One day this, bigger than I'm use to, hawk flew low to the buildings and then swooped up under the roof's overhang and hanged there like a bat. Then it stuck it's feet in and pulled Mossie chicks from the nest.
I remember the long red legs and always wondered if it had any other uses for it.

We use to call the small grey guys on telephone lines Blouvalke.

The raptor you are describing is actually a -- Gymnogene ( now called an African Harrier Hawk / Kaalwangvalk )
