AKM or SAIGA MK
Help me make up my mind please
Looking at pulling the trigger soon on either a AKM with Fixed stock or a SAIGA MK 7,62x39
For general sport shooting and collecting
Being able to fit or having a folding stock is a requirement (so no underfolders)
Thoughts ?

Re: AKM or SAIGA MK
Who made the AKM?
Seeing as the Saiga already comes with probably the best sidefolders around why would you not get that?
I doubt that the AKM will have a side rail either.Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
the glory of the great dead.

Saiga. Why in 7.62x39? It's a PITA to reload for. The Mk03 5.56 is an excellent option.

Re: AKM or SAIGA MK
If a folder is a requirement then the Saiga is the only way to go. It is an excellent set up as SSP said. The only advantage that the AKM holds is collectors cred and magazine availability. However you will never ever wear out a Saiga factory mag so any more than say four would be a waste of money. The muzzle brake on the Saiga is very good.

Re: AKM or SAIGA MK
I'd say saiga
Cause modernising the akm while fun, is pointless these days due to options.
I have a type 56, its lekker but took awhile to get it kitted with QUALITY goodies

Re: AKM or SAIGA MK
I have a Saiga in 7.62x39, shoots well. Point to consider that there is a safety pin that activates when the stock is folded, thus you will be unable to fire with the stock folded as standard. Deactivating this however looks to be quite easy.

Re: AKM or SAIGA MK
Thanks all
Next would be Going for the longer barrel or the shorter MK barrel ??
Most shooting wont be long range (got AR and Bolt action for that)
Also, how are the Puf Gun mags that are available locally for the Saiga ?

Cannot comment on the Puf Gun mags but with the stock folded on the standard gun and muzzle break off it is a very compact gun.As in it will almost fit in a normal day hike backpack. In fact a standard AKM with the stock off is amazingly light and compact. The Saiga has a heavier barrel I think. No question that the shorter barrel looks cool but there is a drop in velocity which if you read up on it does appear to impact penetration.

Re: AKM or SAIGA MK
I also looking to buy an AK pattern rifle 7.62 soon, are the new saiga rifles and kalashinikov rifles the same thing? seems to be. I've seen the ones with polymer furniture at shops for 13k ish. Am I barking up the right tree?
