Saw the S&O Black Ops special (whatever Black Ops have to do with a lifestyle gun store..) Took a wander into the local branch this afternoon seeing that they had advertised Stoegers on special, including a 28", which I had been advised were unlikely to be seen in SA any time soon. So I wasn't overly optimistic to put it midly. Well straight off the rack came a 28" model and I am now the proud owner!

For anyone interested - they seem to have reasonable stock especially of the 26" at what seems to be fair pricing on special. Now for the fun of licensing..
Congrats! If I were in the market for a semi shotgun now one of these would very likely be what I would land on.

First of all congratulations M3K Brethren, may it be a swift and fast licensing process .

Why did you choose the 28 over the 26, is there a significant difference for 2 inches more or less ?

PS: If you do need assistance with your application for the M3K, you are welcome to DM me.

I intend to use it for some (vermin) pigeon shooting and non-competitive clays, so the longer sight plane and heavier swing-weight were my reasons for 28". Yes, I get that fussing about technicalities while shopping at the budget end of the semi-auto spectrum is inconsistent. But that was my logic.

Licence approved today! Hopefully I can get a DFO print-out and collect soon!

I managed to succeed at my local copshop and returned home with my new Stoeger today! Bizarrely, my competency renewal and Sec.13 renewal which were all submitted simultaneously with the Stoeger Sec.16 application are not yet complete. I realise that renewals and probably competency are done at Provincial and new licenses go through National but it is odd that somehow my new licence was approved without my competency.... Anyway I digress.

Some questions for the Stoeger gurus:
    1. Has anyone tried using/fitting the shims that come supplied with the gun? I assume that they increase LOP and maybe adjust cast on/off? How hard and fiddly is it to fit these?
    2. I know I need to fire a few boxes through the gun to run it in - so far I've noticed it's a bit of a squeeze to get 10 70mm rounds into the mag. Doable but not something to be done under pressure. I presume the mag spring eases up a bit with use?
    3. I've also noticed rounds jamming feeding onto the lifter - it may well be the lifter spring that's not doing it's thing just yet. Note that this is with manual manipulation - maybe during firing, the cycling is more vigorous and everything works as it should. Just thought I'd mention it and see if anyone else has had similar issues?
    4. Any recommended mods - like a Benelli recoil spring? Where does one buy Benelli components? At this stage I am not considering changing the stock.
    5. It appears that the chokes are compatible with Beretta Optima HP chokes - has anyone tried using Beretta chokes in the Stoeger or vice versa? I screwed in a Beretta flush-fitting choke and the threads certainly match. Any idea if other Stoeger chokes are available anywhere locally?

Congrats! Enjoy your new blaster. Having toyed with a few I think they are an underappreciated option. Possibly better built than my Mossberg 930 and certainly better finished. If they had been available when I got mine I would definitely have had it on the list of candidates for a relatively affordable semi.

Re your question on choke compatibility Teague has/had an interchange chart which should cover the combinations you listed
