Default 357 mag Lever action for impala ?

Hi guys, would a 357 magnum lever action rifle be suitable for Impala at short bushveld ranges ?

I would be reloading to get the most effective loads possible.

I cull sick or injured impala up to 100m with my 357 mag Rossi, I only shoot Magtech 158gr. Great pig gun under 50m

I know a guy that shot hundreds of impala and some kudu with his 357mag lever gun over the last 15 or so years.

Close up you'll be more than fine ... To be frank, you should have almost no meat damage at all ... I've got a Lever Action on my radar too ...

I have hunted a few Blesbuck and Impala with my Rossi 357, the furthest being about 100m. The shots all heart/lung, but if I did not have a clear open shot, I did not fire. I always felt those shots through fine twigs, or grass etc. was too much of a risk. Now with age and eyesight deteriorating, I will stick to my 308 with a scope.

I love my 357 lever rifle... But I keep things to around 50m... It is my take along rifle when we are wing shooting - there are always Vlakvarke running around with those tarentale.... Its easier to grab the 357 and get stalking than try to remember which pocket the slugs are in and then hit the thick bush with a looooong barrel OU!
It should be fine for Impala within 50 odd meters and use 158gr swc or 140 gr Hornady XTP (the old PMP 158gr JHP were prefect for everything... sadly I only have 6 left!)

    Hi there.
Over they years I have hunted a lot with my 357mag leaver action rifle.
I call it my accidental hunting rifle because I always have it with me at the rite time.
Impala between 55m-75m can be cleanly hunted it's also excellent for Warthog and Duiker with a 180 grain bullet you can hunt bigger game but keep range to 50m.
