Very nice headstamp, thanks for sharing :).

After taking the bolt apart on my Vergeuiro, is it ever a pain to put back together. Thankfully, I found a youtube clip where a gentleman shares a tip for reassembly but I wouldn't want to be doing it in the African bush.

I was under the impression that "UDF", in this manner, refers to the Union Defence Force in South Africa.

I don’t know. I’ve never seen UDF on any other weapon, the only Union markings I know of have been the Arrow in a U. So that part is really interesting. Perhaps the UDF was added by the seller? If Terry or others with more info could advise?

Yes I believe this is the correct meaning of the abbreviation.

In the South African context "UDF" certainly represents "Union Defence Force". This marking was applied to the Portuguese Mausers by the military on actions and butt-plates. So far as I'm aware it was not used again later. One has to remember that the Union Defence Force was only established in 1912 and by the time the Portuguese Mausers were acquired it was probably still getting its act together.

In December 1911 Pretoria advised Enfield that the Arrow in U had been adopted as a Government property mark for ordnance.

    Hey guys,

I have received a few submissions for the UDF marked 1904s, if you happen to have one, feel free to share some close up pictures, as I am looking into the 1904 contract markings, letter blocks, UDF markings, and overall condition.

    Hi Peter

Do you perhaps know when they stopped using that mark?
