Purchasing an LM5
Hi guys.
I need some input from the LM fundis, I would like to purchase an SA made LM5, what does one look out for and are there particular dealers that specialize in these rifles? what is the ballpark on pricing?

Re: Purchasing an LM5
For what they sell for you will be better off with a AR. Guys are looking at R20k plus and for what it is it’s way over priced. Spares will be more difficult to find in the near future and mags are limited to LM/R mags, at least with a AR there are many spares and different mags available.

Re: Purchasing an LM5
Well there aren't any foreign made LM rifles.
Price is dependent on on condition but one or two went for north of 20k on the last classic arms auction.
Look for a vektor or liw built gun as opposed to a Nobleteq one. All of the examples of the latter that I have seen have had issues.
Look for one with a spring load firing pin.
Why do you specifically want an LM? You need to accept that it is a '70's era gun that has had very little development so optics options are limited.
It's not a gun for people who like to recover their brass.Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
the glory of the great dead.

Re: Purchasing an LM5
There is a video on the LM series on Forgotten Weapons that discusses all the variants. The nearest to an LM dealer would be Nobleteq as they manufactured it themselves. The easiest things to check is that the gas block isn't canted and that the gas tube fits perfectly, aside from wear.
As mentioned above they are quite pricey and they don't come up for sale nearly as often as Galils. Check Gunafrica as a more up to date indicator. As the parts are essentially interchangable with that of the AK, I wouldn't worry about spare parts.
Is this for collecting or for defense/sport? If the latter, are you planning on modernizing it?

A Galil may be a option if you can't find a decent LM5.
The Humansdorp co-op had Galil rifles.

I know this is a old thread, but did we ever get the LM6 in South Africa?
