There are a two other brands I have thought of:
- Benchmade (I don't know their prices)
- Opinel for a sturdy and well priced working knife
A few of the criteria I look at when selecting a knife
- blade length
- blade type
- blade cross cut
- grip size
- grip type
- grip functionality (does it fit my hand and pocket)
- assembly
- quality of materials
Hope it helps.

Re: Spyderco Efficient
Looking at what has been posted herewith my 10cents
I have a couple of Spyderco’s including Delica and Endura.
I quite like the idea of the Endela that fits in between the Delica and Endura when it comes to size. For some the Endura will be too big and the Delica too small.

Re: Spyderco Efficient
my experience
budget spyderco are expensive for what they are.
steel is okay but far better steel for less money if you look at other brands.
i get far better edge retention from a d2 honeybadger than i do from spyderco tenacious and spyderco is double the price.

Re: Spyderco Efficient
I have had both the Byrd Meadowlark and the Cara Cara, the budget version of the Delica and Endura respectively. The longer blade is of course better to use most of the time, however for EDC it is just that little bit longer and not as comfortable to carry. If I could have only one, I'd choose the Delica / Meadowlark.
