Re: Headspace measurement
Cost should be per hour, gunsmith rates vary.
It's a one hour job to remove the barrel, inspect, photograph, replace the barrel, and confirm chambering with a headspace gauge.
If you ask on the forum for recommendations in your area, you should be on the right track.
Even if there is no lug setback, just confirming the barrel fit with a headspace gauge eliminates one more variable.

Re: Headspace measurement
I can report a very satisfying 12mm 3 shot group, in fully resized brass (but not bumping the shoulder back). Hornady 154 interbond in once fired brass with case shoulder datum at 54mm, case OAL of 64.3mm, speed 2555fps, with a 14fps spread over 6 shots. All cartridges chambered with a slight tension on closing.
(I referred to "fresh" brass as new brass 414.)
I think I can get a bit more mileage out of the old girl, yet.

Re: Headspace measurement
Shoulder is not pushed back as a partial FL size means not all of the neck is sized and the shoulder does not make contact with the die.

Re: Headspace measurement
A full length Sizing Die will modify the walls, neck and shoulder. You can control how much you push the shoulder back. The die by default must at least touch the shoulder, therefore the neck is sized. If you have partially sized the neck, you haven't touched the shoulder, and you have wasted your time. Either full length size, or neck size, but this partial neck Sizing is neither.
