It's all good and well crying "the law favours the criminals etc." and encouraging more decisive action from the boys in blue. But its important to try and put YOURSELF into a situation, and imagine what the correct police action/reaction would be in that case.
Not so quick to shout "shoot to kill" now are we. If I am ever in a situation where my possession of firearm causes a misunderstanding, the last thing I want is a trigger happy policeman egged on by hysterical public opinion...

Thats the trouble - we don't know the facts.
I agree with you though - he would either have to be aware of the crime committed or seen AK / pointing firearm etc. I suspect he tried to pull them over, they drove away, he chased and caught them and they pulled out there guns - thats a wild guess of course :)
