Re: LED floodlights
I like the idea of strobe light when person close. So neighbors get annoyed.
Makes me think I must install this and from start make sure these strobes point directly at my neighbors bedroom windows.
To make sure they are annoyed when its tripped. These days you here house alarms go off. And no one goes and checks.
Which a person can understand. But if the light bothers you it might annoy enough to phone police.

Re: LED floodlights
Some observations from my side as an electrical contractor.
We put up stacks of these fittings for domestic use, ranging mostly from 10 - 30w.
Tremendous improvements and changes typify LED technology with yesterdays items becoming obsolete very quickly.
About 95% of LED's we use outside are cool white, the newer breed of cool white's seem be to give a less harsh/clinical light than the older types.
Most of the lights we run are photocell [day/night] controlled. An individual pencil type photocell mounted at the light and designed to switch 1 light only do not seem to last [dunno why]. The older type photocell that looks like a coffee mug and the newer little chap with the 16mm aperture are still bullet proof switching 1 or multiple LED's.
You get LED spot lights from various manufacturers...a few of the chinese manufacturers use LED's made by companies such as Osram...they all seem to be ok.
The latest batch with built in motion sensors seem to be lasting [had a couple of faulty ones though] and are more robust than those horrible 2 par 38 lamp motion lights that are so popular.Still,i would mount a seperate motion sensor[stand alone unit] to switch LED's if motion controlled is the way you want to go.

Re: LED floodlights
Forgot to mention....A place like builders warehouse normally stocks lights at the bottom end of the range..lets just say that cost effectiveness is an issue....and then their selling price does not allways reflect this.
Anyway...i would purchase my LED's from the better known light fitting specialists or electrical wholesaler companies.

Re: LED floodlights
Good Morning Tetelestai.
We 'upgraded' to LEDs about three years ago and used lights made by Polaroid.
I'm pretty certain that they were 'made in China' [isn't everything nowadays] but they are still working 100%.
The other thing that we did was to install a pair of solar powered sensor LEDs.
One to the front of the property and one to the back [also made in China].as 'a back up'.
Not as bright as the 'mains supply' but they do give us a light when the mains go down....which happens a lot in Ekurhuleni !
Regards.
Keith.
