Re: Rhodesian weapons
Sir,
I have just joined this forum, and am working through the various topics etc.
I have a copy of your coffee table book, it is one of my pride and joys.
We owe all of you guys so much, lost a brother in Wankie in '78, I was too young to go to the army.
You guys did good.
I salute you.

Re: Rhodesian weapons
I served from 82 to 85 (PF) with a number of "when we's" during that time. All of these guys had come down in 81 after the Lancaster House accord. They all had their respective favourites with the FN FAL, the AK and interestingly the RPD being very high up on the list. An ex Aussie who had also migrated down, whom I reported too had developed a shortened version of the RPD while based with one of the specialised units there. It was extremely popular on ops due to its awesome firepower, coupled to a relatively small size and being belt fed using the standard 7.62 X 39 round was easy to keep fed.
The small arm they all agreed on though was a Browning Hi Power and almost everyone of them, that I met, owned at least 1. Due to the almost permanent shortage of small arms due to sanctions, weapons from old British 303's to M 16's were used, while the FAL and later on quite a few H&K G3 were the mainstay of the security forces there.

Re: Rhodesian weapons
Apologies for the necro but was wondering if anyone could confirm what Beretta firearms were available. Did the 92 ever make it there in time, for example?
Reason I am asking is I'm in the process of establishing a collection of firearms that were used by both sides during the war - starting with handguns. A Browning HP is definitely in the pipeline should one come up. ZANLA / ZIPRA IIRC had Tokarevs and Makarovs?

Re: Rhodesian weapons
I understand that a very limited number of early 92's did arrive there.
