Re: Collector's status
Hi All, would a person be able to get an ammunition collectors permit without having a firearm licence? And how would a child go abt getting a permit if that is at all possible??
Thanks
Jonathan

Re: Collector's status
I am sure one would be able to get an ammunition collector's permit without having a firearm license, since (as far as I understand it) it has nothing to do with if you have a firearm license or not. It falls under a separate category in the FCA (section 18). You would, however, have to sign up at a collectors association, since the application will have to be endorsed by the collectors association.
A quick glance at the FCA doesn't seem to stipulate an age limitation with regards to an ammunition collectors permit, but someone more knowledgeable on this will have to confirm this.
Lastly, be prepared to wait quite a while for your ammunition collectors permit once you have submitted the application. There are some "technical and logistical difficulties" at CFR with regards to these permits, since it seems as if their "system" doesn't make provision for these permit. So some extra effort is required when processing these applications and issuing the permits - you actually have to make an amendment on the application form that specified it is for an ammunition collectors permit. It took nearly 2 years for me to get mine since the day I submitted the application. I sincerely hope that these issues have been sorted out in the meantime.

Re: Collector's status
Thank you Jaco, I have just been in contact with SAAAACA Free State regarding membership for my son so i am awaiting their response. That sounds like a uphill battle. Lets hope and see if things have changed.... What are the storage/ display regulations for live ammo? I could not find any info on that, only that they must be kept in an appropriate manner...

At last! My Collectors Competency has finally been approved for Category D with PAAA!!! Already have 6 guns in the queue to license so now to upgrade to Category C, and another few months wait...
