Re: 6.5 Creedmoor 20" vs 24"
****************************
I have not checked, but: I foundthat shorter thicker barrels were more forgiving in load development than longthin barrels. Yes I agree.
Not sure I understand you here: Inother words, if you are off the node on a short fat barrel the spread will beless than with a long thin barrel. Is it that ashort barrel has a much narrower set of velocities that are within the node. Ifso I agree on paper and seemingly OL - OBT.
Problem is, both short barrels I have owned 10" and16" both shot almost anything well and a lot very well. I got theimpression that a short barrel does not magnify a loads faults as does a longbarrel.
Almost like, just for a tangible figure, say - For every inchof barrel a fault will be times-ed by .25 mm at a 100 m . A 10 " barrel will show a 2.5 mmspread group, and a 24 " barrel will show a 6mm spread at 100 m.
I would have to think more to explain it better, but there isthe gist of a thought I entertain.

Compare apples with apples.
The OP said hunting small/medium game up to 400m.
Both barrel lengths will have the required accuracy, fact, lets not even debate that.
The 4 inch extra will give you roughly 100ft/s more.
At 400m that will buy you about 6cm less drop and about 2cm less wind drift in medium wind.
Is that worth it?
My opinion would be no, get the shorter barrel and fit a nice suppressor.

Shorter barrel is more rigid and gives less muzzle movement. Nodes are also closer.

You mean the node bandwidth? Should be wider due to less muzzle movement.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor 20" vs 24"
Your springbuck or whatever you will be hunting won't know the difference. Just get the one you like the most and develop an accurate load and the shooting skills that can transfer that accuracy to the field.
The longer barrel will give more MV and that will give a slightly flatter trajectory. The difference won't be big enough to make it hit or miss if you do your part.
My LGS has a 26" barreled Howa in a MDT chassis, in 6,5 Needmore calliber. That is very attractive package to me, but I would not limit it to 400m. For shooting varmints and steel that is. For game and normal hunting conditions a 300m shot is already very far in my part of the bush.

Here is some testing of barrel length specific to the 6.5 Creedmoor.
