Default GLOCK foam lined storage cases disintegration

When one gets older time flies by at dog year speed.

I stored a bakers doz of Glocks for what I thought was a few weeks but ------->

All the foam has turned to goo which is a sticky messy bitumen type of gunk!!

The guns are all like new but what will be the best solvent to clean out this mess and can I salvage the boxes?

Thats a bear. I'd start with gentle solvents like paraffin and turps before moving up the scale. i don't know this but suspect that acetone or thinners mat damage the finish on the polymer parts. Suggest breaking some of the goo off and testing the efficacy of various solvents first before going at the guns.

Wouldn't heating it with a hairdryer for a minute or two actually loosen up the "goo" and then use a rough denim type material / rag with some warm water and sunlight liquid to remove the "stickeness" remaining "goo" with some elbow grease.

As mentioned above, Stay away from Acetone, it will more than likely eat the plastic.
Thinners may not be as harsh.
Alcohol may soften the residue and won't harm the plastic.

Try a bit of cooking oil or olive oil to soften and remove the residue.
It would depend on the composition of the degraded foam but the oil may work.

It may be the principle of removing a bottles glue backing on a paper label.
Remove the excess, dab a little oil on the area, rub until the residue delaminates and is removed or wiped away.
    Wash and remove the oil.

Wild idea. Maybe try hit them with a pressure washer with a hot water feed and a bit of detergent. Have stripped some heinous gunk off suspension parts and undercarriages that way.

Out of interest, is the gunk on the pistols too or just on the boxes?

Well .... I did not expect such a thing to happen. It is now all over the place because when I opened the cases bits fell out on the floor and I stepped on it not realising it thinking it was just fluff but it stuck to my shoe and then spread the mess all over tlled floors and carpets.

I am not concerned about the guns as I am certain the surfaces will not be harmed. What a mess everywhere though!!

I wonder how this will affect my selling these Glocks with the original box with damaged foam lining.
