Sorry TStone, its just that while you guys make everything else realllllllly big, your elephants dont quite cut it. However i have seen a few skirt wearing pachyderms in the Freestate that make Kruger bulls run screaming in fear.
Yes you can shoot an Eland with a .243, but its not going to be my weapon of choice for anything bigger than Bushbuck or Impala. Not saying that if a 70" Kudu shows up while i have my .243 in my hands that i am going to pass it up. i will just make 100% certain of my shot.
all that aside, big animals should be shot with big bullets and little animals should be shot with big bullets and fat chicks in the Freestate should not wear skirts.

just wondering, what was the 243win originally designed for. hunting or target.
also , can this freestate elephant be successfullly hunted with birdshot :)

Neither, it was designed a wildcat hybrid that could do both varminting and the hunting of small to medium antelope equally well.
Accuracy was it's birthright, with the .308 as parent case, it's little recoil also aiding upcoming shooters. It's just one of those things the world is better off because of it's existence.
