Silvrav, I've been carrying a Spyderco Endura Clipit for many years now. It fits nicely in my jean pocket. Looks like a normal pocket knife in size. Formal dress its goes nicely in jacket inside pocket and clips-on nicely. Its my self defence knife and I never use it for general knife work. NB, NB Get training and read and practice. It has the same legal and moral decisions to be taken with carrying a gun. Close-up it has more advantages than disadvantages. My knife is like my watch, pants. I'm just not dressed without it.

Get this book: Master of the Blade by Richard Ryan. It will give you a good idea what you in for with carrying a knife, myths and reality.

    Welcome.

    One word...AMOK!

Google it, find the website and find the SA Trainers...there will be some in the JHN / PTA area. Clint Oosthusian for one at least...do some training before you buy your blade(s)...the training might change your mind.

If you in the Pretoria area, you can train with my friend and I. He is a certified AMOK trainer. Below is a list of AMOK instructors throughout SA.

The problem with AMOK is the okes don't last very long 'cause it "hurts"

Dead thread but I will resurrect:
Fighting Folders that have a big blade, sturdy liner lock and are as solid as a fixed bladed knife when opened are easy to use as a ccw by tucking belt clip into ur waistband under your belt or simply in ur pants pocket with only clip visible.

Throwing knives and knives in general not good for primary defence as a firearm for primary can't be beat, but throwing knives better than nothing at all even in defence against a firearm given the scenario, if u have cover you stand a fighting chance if you skilled enough.

Heard good things about AMOK and Piper Knife-fighting schools in CT SA!

Never underestimate a knife. Google the "21 Foot rule". Up close I am much more scared of a knife than a gun. Throwing away a perfectly good weapon doesn't sit well with me, throwing a knife accuratly under pressure....I would like to see it to believe it. All the time training to do it can be better spent on other training. As a hobby, yes but as serious SD tool I don't see a throwing knife as a solution in a modern South African context with multiple opponents. Amok!(MDW) Has a good reputation, Piper is up for discussion.
