    Default S&W M29 44 Mag - Suitable or not???

    Hi Guys,

I've been very lucky and found a S&W M29 8 3/8" 44 Mag and I'm wondering if this handgun will be suitable for hunting with or if I should find some other use for it ???

I've always been interested in handgun hunting and when this one presented it's self I thought that this may be a good opportunity to go for it.

That being said I've been told that the S&W M29's are not the best for this, is the true?

    Thanks,
    Geoff.

    Hi Geoff,
    I've got 4 inch and a 6.5 inch S&W M29's.
I've shot a lot of porkers, blesbuck, impala, etc. with them.
Nothing wrong with them as long as you don't try and load super nuclear loads in them. They don't like being fed a steady diet of super heavy loads.
The heaviest bullets that I can load are 312gr SWC's. They are accurate and have very sweet triggers! tup
I'd love an 8 3/8 barrel just to round out the collection! grn1
Go and have a look at the Handgun Hunters of SA website.

He is best who is trained in the severest school! Fear no man.
