I think it has a lot to do with them announcing they are not making civvy rifles anymore, which they seems to have back tracked on fairly recently. Either way the price of Colt's shot up in the USA, which would translate to heavy increases this side too.
I was told by an industry insider that there were also quality issues coming and going with Colt rifles in the last few years.

Did CZ pickup Colt's rifle business as well or is that separate?

I've read similar stories on the US forums where guys were even comparing specific parts between current production and earlier production guns and noting either the lower quality or that they were missing specific Colt markings, which to them indicated a bought out product.

100% correct. I wanted a Colt LE6920, but was fortunate to find a LE6940 locally. The LE6940 was Colt's submission for the SCAR program, which they lost to FN.

To put things in perspective, I paid R23k for the rifle in 2018. I have been offered R45k for it. Colt's have become expensive. But so has every other American imported AR.

The videos by Mac and Chris Bartocci have been torn apart. Arguing that different marking evidence a quality deficit is either dishonest or ignorant. No videos show quality issues. So called 'premium' brands are really just marketing, often with oversized gas ports.

AK's dont mind. They can be likened to a beautifull sex crazed nympho freak slut that will let you play around with the rest... but they know you will always come back for the good stuff.
